NBC Short Story

(4.2 stars; 11 reviews)

Wonderful anthology of Old Time Radio short story shows. Very high quality productions. Authors ranger from Shelley to Bradbury to Edgar Allen Poe. Too bad there were only 25 or so of them!

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

A huge thank you to MPDMedia here for getting my research off the ground with Beautiful Summer in Newport. The book specifically is STORY: Fiction of the Forties by Whit and Hallie Burnett, the editors of Story Magazine. It was originally published in the May-June edition of Story in 1947. Some places to learn more about Felicia are Time Magazine Archives (also looking at Elenor Medill/Gizycki/Gizycka), an article from the Atlantic titled The Women Behind the Early Alcoholics Anonymous Movement, and her obituaries. For additional information I'll be trying to put some cohesive information together but if there is an interest or a need for more information please leave another review here and I'll find a way to get you more info in the meantime. If you have anything else for me, please, let me know, I'd love to see it!

"Beautiful Summer at Newport"

This is one of the best episodes of the series, along with the production of Shirley Jackson's 'The Lottery'. Written by Chicago socialite, Felicia Gizycka Magruder, it was included in an anthology by Story Magazine of their best stories of the 40's. Gizycka's own tragic life story would make a good movie itself. Two sisters in pre-WWI RI spend the summer with their social-climbing, widowed aunt, who hires a cruel German governess to mind them. Really well-acted with scenes of intense drama.

Short Story lovers in for a treat!

Delightful to find another well done short story anthology among otr! As always I'm full of awe for and gratitude to the volunteers saving radio broadcasts and sharing them freely. Thank you once again.

Where is Frankenstein?

Great collection, but where is their version of Frankenstein? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the site. Might have to upload the copy I have.

Something wrong with "Success Story"

It only runs for 21/2 minutes. but the others are good quality, and I have enjoyed what I have heard

"Cast of Amontiago" should read, "The Cask of Amontillado".
