Critiques
Good Goofy Noir Fun

I have grown to love "Murder at Midnight". Its silly at times, but always camp. Much more "noir" than "Inner Sanctum", it takes the hardboiled approach to the supernatural. My favorite so far is "The Thirteenth Floor" where a gangster gets vengeance on his moll by chasing her through the city and makes explicit his intention to cut out her heart! Good fun and very "period".
Great, campy mystery program!

The writing is pretty good, even if several of the episodes are reworking of existing works. The thing that I love about this show is when the deep voice says, "Murder at Midnight". If there's any mention of the time, especially if it's really late at night, you can expect you know what to happen - after all, it's in the title.
Enjoyed it

I have listened to all 26 episodes. The sound quality is generally good, as is the quality of the content. You get used to the organ music after a while.
Kabbalah

The Cabala episode should be corrected to "The Kabbalah."
excellent little show

for a small syndicated production, there's a lot to like - strong scripts, wonderful acting, and an overall noirish atmosphere makes for a great listen. The show's producer, Anton M. "Tony" Leder, would later helm part of Suspense's run, as well as later producing the sci-fi series X Minus One for NBC. Recommended!
Suprisingly good

This is such a nice show. Amazing acting and script. I enjoyed almost every episodes. I dare say it was ahead of its time. Many characters and situations later became the main ingredients of many Hollywood thriller or slasher movies. Some episodes don't have a "proper" finale (good vs evil guys) so it makes this show even more realistic. Of course, some episodes suffer from too much irrational or illogical elements, but, all in all. It's a GREAT show. Very dark, chilling and engaging. Highly recommended.
organ music for syndication

Murder at Midnight was one of several low budget mystery shows offered by the Mutual Network in the Forties. Mutual stations were usually located in small to medium size cities where the advertising costs were lower. The ad spots were indicated on the record by the organ music, which cued the broadcast engineer to turn down the volume so that the local spot could be read. Often there were three spots: One at the beginning, one in the middle and at the end.
Yes there are more

There were 50 in the first run, and another 10 aired in syndication on mutual in 1950, which were, of course, rebroadcasts of earlier episodes. Some of those original 50 broadcasts were of scripts from Inner Sanctum episodes, too, so how many actual original episodes? Without cross checking, I couldn't tell you. But this is a good show, though.
