Clara Lu n Em 15 Eps

Clara Lu 'n' Em made radio-broadcasting history on January 27, 1931, when it hit the NBC Blue Network airwaves as what appears to be the first-ever soap opera. The show aired throughout the 30s and early 40s on NBC Blue Network and CBS, eventually reaching syndication in 1945. Initially sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive-Peet, the program was moved to a morning time slot on February 15, 1932, where it remained for many years.

This Old Time Radio soap opera follows the lives of three gossipy housewives—Clara Roach, Lu Casey, and Emma Krueger—who gather daily to share caffeine, recipes, and the latest gossip. Created as a joke script by three sorority sisters at Northwestern University, the show became a significant part of broadcast history, marking the beginning of the soap opera genre.
