1946 WCCO Stay At Home Campaign

(4 étoiles; 1 critique)

In the summer of 1946, polio outbreaks in the United States reached an all-time high. In Minneapolis, Minnesota, a voluntary quarantine was implemented, which meant no newspaper delivery boys and no Sunday Funnies for the residents. To help alleviate the situation, Mayor Hubert H. Humphrey, who would later become Vice President, stepped in to read the Sunday comics over WCCO radio.

This unique broadcast not only entertained listeners but also provided a sense of community during a challenging time. The Stay At Home Campaign and this broadcast are notable moments in Minneapolis history.
