The action of all these scenes takes place in or around the Royal Castle at Elsinore. Shakespeare's great drama is so well known to most of us that it is only in the manner of its presentation that we can hope to find anything unfamiliar.

Hamlet has become not so much a man among men as a role to be interpreted by a leading tragedian, a figure upon the stage. This production is based on the First Folio, with additions and amendments from the Second Quarto.

Featuring music by Patrick Doyle and John Powell, this is a co-production of Radio 3 and the Renaissance Theatre Company, directed by Kenneth Branagh and Glyn Dearman. The cast includes Kenneth Branagh as Hamlet, Derek Jacobi as Claudius, Judi Dench as Gertrude, and many other talented actors.
