Iron bars do not confine a Man—only his body. There are more subtle, and more confining bindings, however....Police methods of the future will naturally use complex new technology but police will still need to deal with the same old sad human nature, forever doing horrible deeds. The night stick may be replaced by the hypo-gun but is prison the only solution? Listen to this neat story by Randall Garrett and see. (1 hr 42 min)

Can we have one of those....

for our prison system??? Oh what a wonderful world it would be. In the future, there are killers, and other violent criminals, but now there are ways to short-circuit those criminals' minds so that they never hurt anyone again. Phil did an excellent job reading this, as always. Thanks!

Not to bad

Phil did another fine job on the narration

Wonderful story. Amazingly read by Phil.

Unfortunately that's all it is, still fiction. Be nice if that final stage were somehow accomplished here and now. What a very different world we'd be living in, so long as it's not co-opted and used for means of full control of the populace. Yeah, perhaps it's best it doesn't exist considering how eager government, military, police, et al are to use anything within their means to do so in the real world...

Minor failure of a wordsmith

As a wordsmith and an anime buff I'm browbeating myself for never having looked up the word geas. I mean, one of my favorite animes is Code Geass. And the idea of geas being used to amputate deadly criminal behavior appeals to me very much. Now if only we could get not only the builders, but commissioners of/for Ebola & AIDS; -- also the housing bubble/financial crisis schemers geas-ed.

a pleasant enough story

(read in Haiku style) The Scotland Yard man, Eschews the proffered gun, Whacks pervs with his cane

An interesting story however the complete non discussion of the psychological processes at the heart of the story leaves it lacking.

A different solution to society 's problem, but it makes sense. Kudos to Phil's reading.
