Gelesen von Rebecca Dittman
H. G. Wells
War of the Worlds by Herbert George Wells (H.G. Wells) was published in 1898 at a time when he wrote a series of novels related to a number of historical events of the time. The most important of these was the unification and militarization of Germany. The story, written in a semi-documentary style, is told in the first person by an unnamed observer. It tells of the events which happen mostly in London and the county of Surrey, England, when a number of vessels manned by aliens are fired from Mars and land on Earth. Love Rebecca Dittman's reading. Personally, I think the more dramatical readings (like Version 3 of this work) are very distracting from the storyline. Rebecca's matter-of-fact style, but very lively reading delivers the story directly to the listener's experience. Will look for more works read by this reader.

The book is always better

I've enjoy movies and books. But I've always found the case that the book is always better then any rendition of it on screen. This book far exceeds the attempts of those to turn it into a movie. Wells does a good job keeping the story moving forward and making the reader feel like they are in the action. Would recommend.
The War of the Worlds versions 2
This book is imaginative and written with enough detail and realism to make the story believable (as far as any science fiction story set in the past can be believable). The reader does a good job, making almost no mistakes. His characterizations are consistent and fitting, and he carries the atmosphere of the events effectively.

Really great book and very well read! I am very glad to have been able to listen to this book as I don't know if I could read through it myself as it tends to drag on at times! That said it is a great listen and is through one person's narrative of the events that happened!

This book is by far better than the movies, so expect to be amazed. The suspense is never ending and the litature is perfect. A must read even if your not a SciFi person.
