William Tell Told Again

Gelesen von Mark F. Smith

(4,578 Sterne; 192 Bewertungen)

This is the classic story of William Tell - Swiss patriot and great apple-shooter - as seen through the eyes of English humorist P.G. Wodehouse.
No Swiss were (permanently) injured in the telling of this story; however, results differed for Austrian tyrants.

The original volume also included a humorous poem encapsulating the whole Tell legend, written by John W. Houghton to accompany the sixteen color illustrations. For this audiobook, the stanzas have been collected and read as a single poem. (Introduction by Mark F. Smith) (1 hr 44 min)

wow. I am impressed with the narration! Thank you Mark F. Smith. It does seem like Wodehouse was really trying to make a simple story longer; there are some sections that are a bit tedious. As a story it could have been told more briefly in some places. The poem at the end, however, is wonderful! Witty and intelligent.

Excellent and very English retelling of the old tale

A nice morality tale, engagingly told, about taxation, the right to bear arms, and the importance of the maxim sic semper tyrannis. Told a decade before the outbreak of WWI, it poignantly but humorously explains how much we have to lose when we suffer tyranny.

Good story

Energetically read by Mark Smith, who is one of Libravox's best readers. Wodehouse retells the story of William Tell, with the typical dry wit and humor that is his signature. It is a pretty short story, but well worth it. Enjoy!

ALL WE NEEDED WAS THE OVERTURE

PGW lends his humor to this well-known tale without detracting from it in the least. Tho poem at the end was priceless. Of course, Mark Smith made it even more enjoyable with his distinctive flair.

Superb narration. The skills of the narrator really brought out the whimsy of PG Wodehouse . the only flaw was the pronunciation of the author's surname. I will definitely listen to this again.

A delightful and refreshing rendering of this classic tale. Both, with P.G. Wodehouse's just emerging wit, and the reader's excellent performance, listening was a joy!
