What is it about that old house down the road that bothers Pierre and his wife Annette so much? The owners, Eric and Julia, seem like nice people, but there's an aura of evil permeating the place. Why does Eric exude a supernatural malevolence about him wherever he goes? Eric and Julia look as much in love as anyone Pierre has ever seen, yet Julia's body is covered with mysterious injuries. Can Eric really be the cause or is something far more terrifying at work? (Summary by Ben Tucker) (3 hr 56 min)

This story of mysterious demons, a house that sings and people in love, sounds rather silly, it actually is a great book. Part of that is because the reader is so good. While listening, one begins to wonder if the house is haunted or if the occupants are mad. Even with the creepy aspects of the story, it still makes you have faith in the human will to survive.

This became one of my favorite horror novels of all time before I was even finished listening. Ben is such a compelling reader, and I never would have known it existed without him, or Librivox. Hall rivals the likes of Shirley Jackson in terms of creating domestic horror, leaving the question of whether the threat is real or imagined hanging until the very end.
well written and well read
