A programme featuring an extended interview with Ngaio Marsh, writer and drama producer. (Probably an episode of the series "Portrait from Life.”) She talks about her writing. Begins with people rather than plot. Reads Elizabethan literature for relaxation. Tells of attending a meeting of the Detection Club in London and her first story "A Man Lay Dead”. Her work as a producer of Shakespeare productions at Canterbury University, her views on a National Theatre for New Zealand. At the end is a related cut of Ngaio Marsh recalling her childhood in Christchurch and the first dramatic productions she staged as a child, "Cinderella" written in rhyming couplets. Her mother was very enthusiastic about theatre and she continued directing and writing plays throughout her school days New Zealand Radio 01 AUG 1954
