The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Version 5)
Gelesen von Phil Chenevert
Robert Louis Stevenson
This story deals with the obvious fact that we humans are split, dual. We have urges to do the 'right' thing, to be honorable and wise, but we also frequently fail to follow these better instincts and follow instead urges to do dishonorable, evil things. We seem to battle within ourselves. Are we really composed of two different personalities housed within the same brain, within the same person? Dr Jekyll in this story is so convinced and manages by scientific means to actually split himself into his ordinary composite self, and his evil self whom he calls Mr. Hyde. The horror of this unnatural split is well documented here and shows what might happen were this possible. (summary by phil chenevert) (2 hr 53 min)

Well read, a fascinating morality tale

The author's literary skill has given me an even deeper appreciation of good quality literature and hopefully increased my own ability with language just a little.... With great skill the author belonging to an era long since faded into the pages of history created an enduring tale of the dual nature belonging to all of us. How good and evil exist in all of us and how our shadow self if indulged and left unchecked will ultimately result in our own ruin. Hearkening from a time when the Christian religion was an accepted norm in English society the book has various phrases and allusions to the bible which were interesting to note, I suspect some unfamiliar with the bible might have missed some of these references... I really enjoyed it as a morality tale, and a period piece from the Victorian era. In addition it was well read and so not spoiled through poor narration. 5 stars

I’ve listened to a lot of recordings by the same person and they are always read really well. I have never read the original book but only watched the adaptations but I loved it. Not as long as I thought it would be but brilliantly told!
Really Interesting Story!
