Set in the invigorating wilds of Scotland, clans are crumbling and emigrating as their homeland is bought out from under them. The characters quickly become your friends as you identify with and learn from their struggles and joys. Contrasts abound between true and false (or shallow) relationships, convictions, morals, and faith. - Summary by HannahMary (15 hr 11 min)

Another Lovely Tale

(5 Sterne)

I am always moved by George McDonald’s reflections. Though labeled a fiction by genre, by nature it is a his stork old piecemoral tale. I used the piece as a source of inspiration during my times of prayer and reflection. The reader captured the beauty of McDonald’s words with a simple clarity.

I truly enjoyed this author and reader. excellent plus. thanks k

Beautiful Story

(5 Sterne)

I literally cannot get this book out of my head. It was so beautiful- my thoughts are still wandering through the scenes of the story. Me and my sister both had dreams about this book. The narrator does an amazing job!! I really hope she reads more of George MacDonald's books! Update: just listened to it for the 2nd time and loved every. little. minute of it 😍💕

Such a Beautiful Story

(5 Sterne)

What a book! I love George MacDonald's characters. Having Ian around was like having a preacher, or a second, and perfect, conscience, to speak to every trouble: and to my own indignation in simply hearing of them! My soul was truly disciplined through listening! We truly face no such troubles as these, have no real poverty staring us as a whole family in the face. To be merciful takes on a new, deep, and TRUE, meaning in the face of such grievous wrong. God alone can enable it. And Alasdair and Ian's relationship is the longing I have for my own sons someday. George MacDonald truly knows how to stir the soul. And Hannah Mary seems to know perfectly how to convey his thought.

Wonderful story brilliantly read!

Hannahmary's soothing, well controlled reading of this marvellously rich book only serves to enhance the wealth of insight and wisdom that unfolds in every successive chapter. One of George MacDonald's very best. I couldn't stop listening! Do yourself a favour...take a a day aside, and let it minister its timeless truths to your soul.

Macdonald's best

(5 Sterne)

of all George Macdonald's novels that I have read, this is the best! As usual, this novel contains many mini-sermons but in this novel The narration and dialogue themselves are a marvelous story and worthy of being made into a motion picture.

One of my favorite MacDonald books, and that is saying alot

I love MacDonald and all his books, but this one is a specimen even among his. It is full of spiritual insight and Hannah Mary is a great reader.

A complete delight to listen to. This novel of MacDonald particularly challenged me to consider how immature my love is. I greatly appreciate the narrator’s evident ability and efforts. This is an audiobook of highest quality in every way!
