The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale (Version 2)

Gelesen von Cori Samuel

(4,435 Sterne; 54 Bewertungen)

The Secret Agent tells the story of Adolf and Winnie Verloc. He is a phony anarchist and agent provocateur of the title, and the plot centres around the terrible consequences for their family when he is pressured into planning a terrorist act. It also bleakly satirises early 20th Century anarchism and the operations of the police and intelligence forces, while being none too complimentary about the media and general public either. Summary by Cori Samuel. (9 hr 49 min)

Simply Terrific

(5 Sterne)

I enjoyed this tale of misfortune, misunderstanding, and poor choices far more than expected. Joseph Conrad is becoming my new author-crush. Cori Samuel does an excellent job with the narration.

I hate coming up with titles - just read my review. :)

Cori is a wonderful reader. Superb quality. What happens when a spy gets old and is in danger of being put out to pasture? The story is cynical, and sad, and a bit hard to follow at times. But I enjoyed it. It does have a light of hope at the end, albeit a cynical one - terrorists (anarchists) cannot conquer, because humanity is too big. I would have liked the ending to be a little less messy, all packaged up neatly and tied up in a bow, with the bad guys all getting their just desserts. But I can't always have it the way I want it.

Great Story, Great Reader

(5 Sterne)

The combination of Joseph Conrad and Cori Samuel create a spellbinding experience for this masterpiece. Classic Literature is rarely presented with such quality. Ms. Samuel inhabits the characters of this amazing examination of the personalities who are of criminal intentions and those who track them. I put this work in the realm of Henry James and Dostoyevsky. It’s that good. A tremendous thanks and appreciation go to Cori Samuel for bringing this thrilling novel to life.

Not my favorite.

Maybe it's just me but I thought the story dragged on and on really going nowhere or developing into much. It was very slow. I quit listening quite a few times. The reader did an okay job, she had a very pleasant voice. I have it one last chance and finally pushed through to the end, , which was uneventful and leaves the reader hanging, It was disappointing.

good book and great reader!
