Abie's Irish Rose
Anne Nichols
Abie's Irish Rose is a vintage radio show that revolves around the marriage of a Jewish boy and a Roman Catholic girl, serving as the precursor to the television series Bridget Loves Bernie. Based on the 1927 Broadway hit, the show features humorous plots often centered around disputes between the fathers of the couple, leading to comedic resolutions.
The series was a hit in 1942 but faded by 1944. This collection includes the only three known surviving episodes. Notable cast members include Sydney Smith, Richard Coogan, and Betty Winkler, among others. The show aired on NBC at 8 p.m. on Saturdays, sponsored by Drene Shampoo.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
