The Wind in the Willows (version 5)

Read by Cori Samuel

(3.8 stars; 32 reviews)

A children's classic, this is the story of Rat and Mole, who have many adventures both on and off their beloved river, with their friends Toad and Badger. This version has been read in a whisper and is perfect for night-time listening in a quiet room. The low volume is intentional! (Summary by Cori Samuel) (7 hr 46 min)

A Librivox marvel

The reader has given us something uniquely satisfying. I listened to this at night and was instantly captivated. Any attempt to describe the experience would seem unduly strident - please try it for yourself.

well done

I use this for my daughter before bedtime. It helps her little mind slow down and hear a classic. Reading in a whisper can't be easy. It lends to a special parent/child time!

Love Love Love!

It's impossible to exaggerate how much I love this story and Cori Samuel's performance. The whispering is so soothing, and yet she still captures all the humor and nuance of Grahame's masterpiece. This book for children is a riveting experience for this 50-something adult, and I especially appreciate it when I'm having trouble sleeping.

Great for falling to sleep to

This is my go-to book for last thing at night, I think it's a bit of a Marmite thing, you will either understand and love it or you will wonder what on earth is going on and go choose another book. I love it personally!

Interesting idea

I agree that the whispering won't work for everyone, but that's just a matter of taste. For some folks the intentional whispering will no doubt work. Perhaps alternating between Adrian Praetzellis' reading and this one. . .?

What a brilliant idea! Cori Samuel's whispered version is a cosy and intimate experience. When I say I fell asleep listening to this, it's a compliment. Many thanks. TheBookworm (Manchester, UK)

Cori Samuel is one of a kind, a wonderful reader but

the whispering is for me quite exasperating, nay more irritating. Perhaps I need my hearing tested. 4 stars for effort
