John Henry Pepper
Read by LibriVox Volunteers
This work portrays the true history of the illusionary tactic known as "Pepper's Ghost." This is a method of projecting an actor onto a stage using a sheet of glass and clever lighting. Thus the actor is able to appear on stage as a ghostly apparition while still acting alongside other actors and actresses. The ghost effect was received with amazement by the public and it is said that many returned to the theater repeatedly in attempt to work out the method. - Summary by Anthony Karl Futterer (1 hr 36 min)
