Joyce Jordan, MD
The Joe Hehn Memorial Collection
Joyce Jordan, MD was a soap opera that began in 1938 and ran to 1952, and had a brief return in the first half of 1955. The program began as Joyce Jordan, Girl Interne , and in 1942, Joyce completed her studies and time as an interne to become a practicing MD. The foundational storyline for the series was the challenges of a woman working to succeed in a male-dominated profession. The episodes in the Hehn Collection begin with the time that Gertrude Warner took over the lead role from Betty Winkler. Warner was a very successful New York actor, playing roles such as Margot Lane in The Shadow and Della Street in the Perry Mason daytime serial. In fact, radio researcher Jim Cox identified Warner as the third busiest actor in daytime serials, with 20 different ones in various roles for Against the Storm, Beyond These Valleys, David Harum, Ethel and Albert, The Man I Married, Marriage for Two, Modern Romances, Mrs. Miniver, The Right to Happiness, Valiant Lady, When a Girl Marries, Whispering Streets, Young Doctor Malone , and others. * * * Joe Hehn (1931-2020) was a pioneering collector of radio recordings when the hobby emerged in the 1960s. The Joe Hehn Memorial Collection is comprised of many recordings and documents. The latter include scripts, program documentation, catalogs of fellow collectors, and old time radio fanzines of the period. These documents are being scanned into Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Digitizing his collection of reel tapes and discs is the effort of a wide range of North American volunteers, and includes assistance of some international collectors. The groups supporting this effort with their funds, time, technology and skills are the Old Time Radio Researchers and a small group of transcription disc preservationists who refer to themselves as the "The Knights of the Turning Table.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

The show labeled January 5, 1948 is a wrong date. January 5, 1948 was a Monday, but the announcer says to "listen again Monday," indicating that it is a Friday broadcast.
