The Jean Shepherd Show (WOR) 1967/11/29 - A Hunting Story

(3.5 stars; 1 reviews)

The Jean Shepherd Show (WOR-AM)  Approximate Transmission Date: 11/29/1967 "A Hunting Story" (or) "Sitting Ducks" A trilogy of tales involving firearms, Alter Proder Beer, game wardens, vomit & a dead duck.... 1.) Shep defines the " seasonally-driven " man & then plays an explosive audio tape (made by studio engineer Larry) that was actually recorded on the opening morning of duck season.  2.) Shep recalls his " Old Man " & the neighborhood "guy trip" that resulted in an early morning drunken run-in with the game wardens. 3.) Finally, in " A Snipes' Tale ", Shep relates a "rite-of-passage" story that came with the purchase of his first hunting license at the age of 16.... The results are pure humiliation! This is a slightly edited broadcast (with improved audio) to fit within a 30 minute time slot. NOTE: This was taken from one of the un-dated radio episodes & at the very outset of the tape, Shep mentions that Barbra Streisand included a version of " Stout Hearted Men " in her latest album...(An old Nelson Eddy stand-by that Shep would often rift on...)  That New album was entitled "Simply Streisand" & was a pre-Christmas release for October 1967. According to the original Federal Migratory Waterfowl Regulations; Wednesday November 15, 1967 was the opening day of duck season for New Jersey that year. Shep also mentions that the tape he is playing was recorded " a couple of weeks ago " on that "opening day" morning of duck season. So by these clues, one could assume that this transmission was broadcast on or about Wednesday, 11/29/1967...That is only an approximation; but it's " in the ballpark " as Shep used to say....
