I had 12 of these Gielgud/Richardson episodes on cassette as a kid and loved them. Now I have them again. Several had different titles, like The Dying Detective is Rare Disease and Charles Milverton is The Yatsey Case. Nice sound quality--better than my worn out cassettes.

Shocked to read the comments by some rude people complainign about the episodes being in alphabetical order. Do you people know how much work is involved in tracking down, digitally recording, editing, cleaning up, converting, and uploading each episode ? You should be thankful, not angry or rude ! Special thanks to smurfmeat and the OTR team for archiving these recordings. Also thanks to jeanbean14 for providing the list of episodes in order. I have taken jeanbean14's episode data and made this into a DOS batch file for renaming my MP3s to their full names. For example, it will remane this file: The_House_Of_The_Three_Gables_1931_24kb.mp3 to: 1931-11-12 - The House of the Three Gables [11-12-1931] 79.mp3 Run instructions: create a new file in Notepad, copy all lines of the script below and paste it into the Notepad file, and save it with a .BAT extension. Move the file to the same folder as your Sherlock Holmes MP3s and double click on it, and it will rename all of the files it can find. If your files have different names, or if you downloaded the OGG instead of the MP3 versions, then you will need to edit the script and change file names to suit. If you are stuck and need help, visit my web site (see below), get my email address and send me an email. Make sure you are friendly and polite ! I wont tolerate the rude non-sense that some others have shown here. The Case of the Neglected Farm 30 Jan 1983

Not a Sherlock Holmes detective radio show. The following is cut and pasted from http://www.cambridge-explorer.org.uk/HBWEB/VV341/Second-Holmes.htm The Second Holmes BBC Radio 4 - 1983 -------------------------------------- Starring Peter Egan as Stamford Holmes & Jeremy Nicholas as Dr Watson -------------------------------------- Written by Grant Eustace Produced by Paul Mayhew-Archer -------------------------------------- SECOND HOLMES was a series of six shows brought to radio by the British Broadcasting Corporation in early 1983. These were humorous cases of detective Stamford Holmes, the grandson of Sherlock Holmes (???), played by Peter Egan and his counterpart, Dr. Watson, the grandson of Sherlock Holmes's companion, played by Jeremy Nicholas. Stamford Holmes is a reluctant consulting detective in a modern age where the crimes are mundane, not offering challenge. Although he has his grandfather's ability to see detail and use them to arrive at conclusions, he gets quickly bored by his cases. Were it not for Dr. Watson pushing and prodding him, Holmes would be off on some other enterprise. Watson is more the romantic, longing to participate in detective adventures of the days of grandfather, believing the cases at hand will prove Holmes' worth. Sherlock Holmes 1916 movie found

The first Sherlock movie was discovered here in Paris 2014, now restored and available. From Allmovie.Arthur Conan Doyle never specified in any of his sixty Sherlock Holmes stories that his fictional creation wore a deerstalker cap, smoked a curved pipe or relaxed off-duty in luxurious dressing gowns. In fact, much of our popular visualization of the master detective (as well as the phrase "Elementary, my dear Watson") originated from the work of actor/director/playwright William Gillette, who in 1899 wrote the stage play Sherlock Holmes and performed the title role in extended international tours and multiple revivals. (He chose the curved pipe because it allowed him to speak his lines without blocking his mouth.) The virile and magnetic Gillette was one of the most popular performers of his era, but he is mostly forgotten today because his sole motion picture performance -- a 1916 silent adaptation of the play that made him famous - was thought lost to time. But in October 2014, silent film historians rejoiced when a mislabeled French-language nitrate negative was uncovered in Paris's Cinémathèque Française archive - and Sherlock fans were equally jubilant to discover its plot was a faithful adaptation of Gillette's play, with Sherlock's hunt for incriminating documents on behalf of the bewitching Alice Faulkner (Marjorie Kay) thwarted by his sinister nemesis Professor Moriarty (Ernest Maupin). The romantic angle to the story is unusual, but it was done with Doyle's blessing to Gillette to "marry him, murder him, or do what you like" to the character.
Very Enjoyable But Needs Organization

Almost all of the individual episodes are fantastic. Oddly, the later series from the late 1970s to early 1980s, with higher production and longer format, aren't as good as the earlier series. The worst example being what was done to "A Study in Scarlet". All the actors portraying the leads did a superb job. The sponsors advertising gets woven into the shows. Which can get a bit eye rolling but was a product of the time. The main problem I have with the way it is presented here is that it is NOT in chronological order. You'll hear an episode from the early 1940s followed by an episode from the 1970s. Occasionally you'll hear the same story portrayed by different actors back to back. I for get the episode, but at least one story gets played three times in a row. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if the episodes were presented chronologically. Some of the sound quality can be iffy too. Mainly the shows from the 1970s where the magnetic tape is starting to degause. Overall I did enjoy the episodes immensely and will likely revisit in the future.
Missing information and shows

The otrsite has serious gaps as shown by the Sherlock Holmes Adventures Podcast via iTunes. For example, that podcast provides Shoscombe Old Place starring Hobbs & Shelley but the otrsite gives no indication as any such story even existing. This means that if like me you try to organize the shows by airdate (to better capture that feeling of old time radio) you are at time mystified as to where an episode goes. Also the heavy-handedness of the sponsor and corny and cheesy plots is as much a part of the shows are the well written plots. Even Conan Doyle muffed it as seen with "The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone" and not putting those shows up out of what in the end is personal views is IMHO not fair to those with different tastes.
Great Sherlock Holmes Collection

This is a fantastic collection of Sherlock Holmes radio episodes. I've already heard many of them over the years, but it is a great service for those who haven't. I particularly liked the inclusion of the Ben Wright show from 1950 which must be extremely rare. There are a few errors on the list that i'd like to point out. "The Camberwell Poisoning" episode is actually a Rathbone show from 1946. "The Haunted Bagpipes" episode is from the Tom Conway series of 1947."The House of The Three Gables" show that is listed as 1931 is,I believe, a Carleton Hobbs UK show from, perhaps, 1964. "The Noble Bachelor" (1933) is also a Hobbs show from around 1959.
