Tender Buttons
Gertrude Stein
Read by Cori Samuel
Tender Buttons is a groundbreaking collection of poetry by Gertrude Stein, first published in 1914. This work defies conventional narrative and structure, presenting a series of vignettes that explore the everyday objects and experiences of life through a unique lens. Stein's innovative use of language invites listeners to engage with the text in a fresh and imaginative way.
Divided into three sections—‘Objects,’ ‘Food,’ and ‘Rooms’—the poems challenge traditional forms and meanings, creating a rich tapestry of sound and rhythm. Stein's playful yet profound approach to language encourages a deeper contemplation of the ordinary, transforming the mundane into something extraordinary.
With its experimental style and focus on perception, Tender Buttons stands apart from other poetry collections of its time. It is a testament to Stein's avant-garde vision and her ability to capture the essence of experience in a way that resonates with both the intellect and the senses.

Thank you Cori for bringing this book to me. I confess that I needed to read the Wikipedia for it to understand what on earth was going on, I have listened several times now and it is indeed either genius or gibberish, I feel a parallel to the emperor's new clothes.
