Great Reader

A great reading of one of Doyle's best.

Excellent, consistent vocal performance and audio recording from Neuman. An interesting and influential story with a narrative and stylistic cadence Holmesians will find at once fresh and familiar. As with many of Doyle’s writings, there are a number of cringeworthy phrenological/imperial/racist statements and caricatures, but it’s important to be clear-eyed about the past and not censor or bowdlerize. I, for one, found it very interesting that one of the principal characters is drawn from Roger Casement, of Casement Report fame. With such caveats and context, I’d recommend this to anyone, Holmes fans especially!

great reader, improvable recording

great Narrator, voice fits the story perfectly. the noise gate is quite audible and a bit annoying though, as is the background noise. I'd love to listen to more from this guy with a better recording Quality, he'd be worth the Investment.

Neufeld rules!

Bob Neufeld provides the finest Librivox version of this classic adventure. If you haven't read (or heard) it before, you might be surprised at how much it differs from the 1925 film adaptation, which is available here at IA.
