The Mystery of the Hidden Room

Read by Roger Melin

(4.5 stars; 280 reviews)

A classic mystery/detective story in the Sherlock Holmes tradition, the hidden room suggested by the title of this book does not remain a mystery for very long as the book progresses. Written in the first person, the husband of his (Carlton Davies) former lover is found dead one night at the stroke of midnight, and Davies finds his ex-lover standing over the dead body immediately after the shot was fired, with a gun in her hand. It was no secret that she never truly loved her husband, who had blackmailed her into marrying him. The jury ships Ruth to prison, and the stage is set for Davies to locate the right detective for the case, and for a series of events with twists and turns and surprises that will keep the reader guessing who was responsible for this murder. Masterfully Crafted Mystery!

(5 stars)

Humorous & creative, this novel is not to be taken lightly! It is a wildly entertaining tale, combining action, adventures, romance, suspense, several dastardly deeds, committed by a diabolical, murdering fiend, and two genuinely likable Heros. *One must listen without any nonsensical "PC" sensitivity, allowing for the era, in which it was written. The recording itself, by Roger Melin, was, much like listening to a friend tell you a story, by firefight. His voice is a rich, deep, expressive baritone, that wraps you with the warmth of the story.

Another American Rival of Sherlock!

(4 stars)

Well this American detective is more a fan than a rival. The story is a good one and well-paced but shares with the Holmes canon some gothic features and one or two unlikely moments. All good fun and if you know the reader then you know that he is always excellent

mystery of the Hidden Room

(5 stars)

Very good with a lot of twists and turns. I read lots of mysteries but I never did figure out this one until the end. Roger Melin is still an excellent reader and he makes the book very interesting with his voice presentations.

Excellent murder mystery

(5 stars)

The summary covers the plot. I have listened to this story 2x, and loved it both times. The bad guy in this story is really a NASTY grasping little bugger. Whoo! Excellent reader, thanks!
