Ping Pong

(5 stars)

I am so addicted to this program. It holds up to the sophisticated tastes of today's audience because it's so realistic. It is so detailed in every way, from casual conversation to sound effects. It creates an image in the mind better than any other show in the genre, if not all of Old Time Radio. I was one of those whose only image of Jack Webb was the caricature of Joe Friday that he helped to create. The difference between Webb's portrayal of Joe Friday in the radio and 50s TV series compared to the late 60s/70s TV show is so vast, it might as well be a different character. When I first heard the radio programs, my jaw dropped. This was not the Webb/Friday I was used to. He plays Friday with humor, warmth, sincerity, and every other feeling that is repressed in the later TV series. If you haven't seen the 50s TV series, it's almost like the radio show come to life. In fact they recycled many of the radio scripts, word for word, for TV. There's just one thing I can't figure out on the radio show. Why do they almost always start out by playing ping pong? :-)

trouble playing

I really enjoy this program and also listen for all the hints to the culture of that day and time in history. I listen thru the chrome browser on my android phone, specifically a Samsung galaxy 4. There are a number, more than half, of the shows that won't play, but others play just fine. They all look like the same file type. I can't find a forum to help with this and wonder if they are any other listeners that have this problem and maybe have figured it out? Or could give me a clue? I really would like to be able to hear all the programs that are available.

These are so wonderful

My review is similar to "P51" being semi-housebound, these radio programs give so many of us practically unlimited hours of enjoyment, instruction, even nostalgia for earlier times even though a lot of them are "before our time". No show made recently can compare to any of these old programs. Even the crackles in the audio from old records give it a flavor that adds to it all. Just wonderful. Thank you so much.

I so love these shows, I remember how we use to stop and listen every evening, mY mother and Daddy, we would laugh at some cry at others, or my Mom and I did. I listen at night mostly when ready to go to another place before sleeping and during the day. I am mostly in bed as I am a semi-invalid, thank you so much for the escape and enjoyment

go back in time it is so much fun.

Although OTR was just a little bit before my time, I was born in 1961, that still doesn't prevent me from loving them. I appreciate everybody who has uploaded these episodes, I listen to them and enjoy them immensely! Thank you!
